ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Mike Kojonen is the founder/owner of Principal Preservation Services LLC, with offices in Woodbury, MN and Hudson, WI. He has been in the financial services industry since 2002 helping clients in budgeting and finance, but now solely focuses on helping pre-retirees/retirees with necessary retirement planning.

Too many people are overconfident yet underprepared for retirement. Every week clients come into Mike’s office with retirement accounts but not a retirement plan. They have no idea if or when they can retire and what retirement would even look like. His goal is to inform, educate, and direct them to put them on the path to succeed in retirement without the stress.

Mike’s mission is for his clients to be able to achieve their goals by having a solvent retirement plan and to live retirement the way they dreamed of. Mike is able to do this by implementing strategies that are simple to understand, but hardly talked about or utilized in the industry. However, the relationship Mike holds with his clients isn’t just about the strategies or the plan he implements with them, he has a true desire to earn the trust of all his clients. Building a foundation based on integrity, honesty and consistency is extremely important to Mike. This helps ensure an open communication environment for his clients so that they are educated and understand what their retirement will really look like.

Mike, a Minnesota native, currently resides in Somerset, WI. He and his wife, Angie, have nine children (six girls and three boys) along with three dogs and three cats. He loves to play golf, travel, and spend time with his family and friends. Mike is a strong advocate of giving back to the community and thus is an active member and supporter of his church. He has a strong faith in God which guides and leads him, his family, and his business.

MEET OUR TEAM

Mitch Moss
Associate Advisor


Mitch has been helping people navigate the retirement phase since 2013. His role is to start the discovery process by gathering all financial and Social Security information to help devise the most strategic plan for the client. This is to ensure that all their assets can work together.

Mitch is very active in community sports and has been coaching his daughter’s fast pitch team since 2012. On his days off you might even see him navigating the waters of the St. Croix with his daughter and friends!

Jessica Thell
Office Administrator


Jessica has been with Principal Preservation Services, LLC since 2016. She brings experience from a management and customer service background. As well as being the Office Administrator, Jess is Mike’s assistant and the ‘gate keeper’ for Principal Preservation Services. She will be the first face to greet you with a smile at either of the offices.

Originally from England, Jess now lives in New Richmond, Wisconsin with her husband of 14 years and their two dogs.

Kasey Byrd
Associate Advisor


Kasey’s background in financial services started in the mortgage industry. His primary focus is helping our clients with long term care and other insurance needs. He and his beautiful wife have been married since 2013 and have four children together. Kasey is active in his church and loves to spend time with his wife and children.

Angie Kojonen
Event Coordinator


Angie is Mike’s wife and does extensive work behind the scenes at Principal Preservation services. She works closely with Jess by organizing and implementing the many educational and social client events put on throughout the year.

Angie is a stay at home mom and spends much of her time ferrying their children to the various hobbies they are active in. With seven of their nine children still at home, this is a full-time job! Mike and Angie became grandparents for the first time in 2018 when their oldest daughter, Nicole had a baby!
